An Overview of Security+ Exam
In this article, I will describe the critical points related to the Security+ exam.
The Security+ exam is designed to be a vendor-neutral certification. I chose this exam because it is a good starting point and helps you consolidate your cybersecurity knowledge.
CompTIA states that this certification applies to those who work in roles below:
- Systems administrator
- Security administrator
- Security specialist
- Security engineer
- Network administrator
- Penetration tester
- Security consultant
The exam covers five domains:
- Attacks, Threats, and Vulnerabilities 24%
- Architecture and Design 21%
- Implementation 25%
- Operations and Incident Response 16%
- Governance, Risk, and Compliance 14%
The certification exam is costly. The current pricing as of today, October 21, 2021, is $370! However, by buying a book or a course, you get a discount voucher to apply for your exam vouchers so that you can save some money!
You will have 90 minutes, and there will be up to 90 questions. Some of them are simulation-based. The rating scale is from 100 to 900 points. For example, to pass CompTIA Security+, you need to score 750 points.
Once you a ready for the exam, you can book it in two ways. First, you show up physically at some local certification center or do it online while being observed via webcam. I prefer a physical location because it forces you to get into a different mindset, but due to the Covid situation, I am not sure which option I will choose.
And the last thing I wanted to mention before I sign off is that you will have to renew your certification after three years. Again, you can find more information about various options here.
I hope that helps you get an overview and prepare mentally for the upcoming feature. Good luck to all that are preparing and getting ready.
